Default Anyone disassemble alternator to paint shell?

Ive got a junk yard alternator for my build that works just fine, but the shell is horribly oxidized. Thinking about disassembling the two halves to see if I can sand and paint the shell so that it doesnt look like crap. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

One thing i do know is you cant do it while it is together or it will fail. I know from experience.

AFAIK, you have to desolder some electrical connections on the rear of the case to get it apart.

Yes ive done one. Its fairly simple. Take off nut and pulley, seperate both halves, you will have to take out the brushes and stator and unsolder 4 joints from the lugs. Then its paint and reassmbley.
