Default can I delete this?

When rerouting wires for a wire tuck, the vacuum line that goes to the canister on the passenger side frame rail snapped in half. I can put It back together but I'm just wondering what its purpose is, and if I can just get rid of the canister, trace the vacuum line back as far as I can, and cap it off.

Is this the canister your talking about ? If so it for the HVHC ***** and trap door. If you cap it off you won't have HVAC controls.

Yes that's the one. I read on another thread that the controls would still work but it wouldn't change settings as quickly. I wanted to be sure before I capped it. So you're sure I'll lose the hvac controls?

You could get rid of it if you take the line out of the canister and connect it to the back of the intake manifold. But if you get rid of everything you won't have HVAC controls.

Thank you sir. I'lll trace the hose while I've got the harness out and if it runs anywhere near the intake on the driver side I'll do that. If not it looks like ill be patching it

The hose comes out of the back of the intake next to the brake booster hose. It runs over to the pass side wheel well and the in to that canister. Then from the canister in to the pass side fire wall where the ECM and A/C box is. There should be a check valve on the line before it enters the fire wall.

The vacuum line off the front of the canister is routed behind the bumper support and at least around to the fuse boxes. Thats why I'm confused. I've folowed the lines on the pass side before

Sorry I have forgot that I relocated it to the pass side when the Procharger went in 6-7 years ago.

Your on the right track, As long as the vacuum tube coming out of the fire wall by the A/C box is on a vac supply your HVAC will work.

So are you saying that I can cap it off and just ditch the canister or not? I wouldmt be asking and I'd just try and see if the car wasnt torn so far apart at the moment.

That is a vacuum reservoir, it's purpose is to maintain enough vacuum when engine vacuum drops (when accelerating) so the HVAC doesn't switch modes. As most GM's default to defrost when the vacuum source is disconnected.

If the check valve is good, and no leaks, ditch it. I deleted the canister and HVAC controls work fine. Not unless ur running a huge cam then vacuum @ idle may not be sufficient.

Just an update in case anyone else wants to ditch the canister, my hvac controls work fine without it. I capped it off the 3-way check valve beside the pcm. Nothing changed after removing the ~6' of vacuum line and the canister near the passenger side fog light
