Default Smoking Alternator?

So i went out this morning to start up my 98 Z28 for its weekly start up and about 20 seconds after i fired it up i had white smoke coming from the front of my engine bay from the alternator or bottom of the power steering pump. Anyone ever seen this. And it smelt like faint hot electrical? I imagine its probably my alternator going bad but just wanted some input before i throw money at it. Oh there is also no squealing or funny noises. Thanks guys.

Not a good sign...could be one of two things:

1. Alternator toasted
2. Power steering leaking on to alternator, which would lead right back to #1 eventually.

Did the voltage come up like it should have?

yea sounds like a fluid leak. Check power steering leak, coolant or power steering cooler. If you can look under there with a light see if it looks wet. I know how you feel tho, My rack and pinion was leaking and stuff just blowing off down there was covering my exhaust pipes and it would stink when they heated up.
