Default Clearance to floor pan?

How much clearance do I need between the exhaust and the floor board? I installed long tube headers and a 3" y pipe, and it is a bit low. I am thinking I can tweak it for a tighter fit, but not sure how tight is too tight. Thanks guys.

usually about a pinky fingers width is good. if you have poly motor mounts you could probably get even closer.

With poly motor mounts you should be fine with 1/8".

1/8"?! I have about an 1/8' now! I have poly mounts btw. Looks like I'll be fighting w/ the exhaust some more soon.

What about heat transfer to the floorpan with the exhaust pipes that close ?

I have both poly engine and transmission mounts, and the engine still torques. I'd say 1/2" should be ok. Only way to really know is to drive the car and adjust as needed.

There's only two places my exhaust is that close, and that's on the drivers side Y-pipe where there's floor/chassis bracing. So there's still a good gap between the actual floor and the exhaust pipe, and the floor doesn't get any warmer than it did with the stock exhaust. Furthermore the only reason I can get my exhaust that close is because of the Ball/Socket joints on my BBK header & Y-pipe.
