weird exhaust question...

weird exhaust question... I got SLP headers random tech cats and true duals..my question is i got a bad exhaust leak on both sides where the cats go onto the headers. The black streaks are going forward though, is it me or does that just seem really weird? also when we had just the headers and cats only,the car ran .3 faster thru the 1/8? i thought the true duals were supposed to help? i guess my big question though is should i remove the cats to see if something is wrong ??

I have this same problem, not as bad though. Would this cause a code to be thrown and cause the car to sputter and surge at about 35-40 mph. I can feel the leak but cant tell if its coming from the header/cat band clamp or the hole for the oxygen sensor leaking around the threads. There is soot and the rear ones seem to have no leaks. Is there any way we can just remove the clamps, y-pipe, and have the cats welded up or would that cause damage. Thanks

i would assume you could weld them up but i didn't because i really didn't want cats in the first place but i was unsure how hard it would be to get to pass inspection without them, and now knowing what i know i'm sure i won't be running them but first i gotta make sure the torq arm i want will clear the exhaust..as far as surging i doubt the exhaust leak is causing that. sometimes when i push in the clutch to shift gears, it'll pop back a bit..i just want the exhaust quiet as it used to be and also too want to take the cats off so i won't have to worry about them clogging up
