Crank or Cam Sensor?
I’m having a bit of a problem with my LS1/T56 swap. It has happened twice now that the engine will miss and back fire for a minute or two and then just shut down. It did it yesterday, and I tried to collect as much data as possible. I noticed that when I lost power, the tach was still reading RPM. So, that leads me to believe it’s not the cam sensor. I pulled to the side of the road and tried to restart it… crank but no fire. The strange part is that after I stopped on the side of the road, I popped the hood and prodded the cam sensor connector (since I couldn’t reach the crank sensor), and it fired right back up.
Then last night when I went to pull it into the garage, it wouldn’t fire. So, I popped the hood and poked the cam sensor again. And, again, it fired right up. Weird…
I have HP Tuners and would consider myself fairly competent. I just don’t get the correlation between the cam sensor and the misfire/no fire thing. I thought the LS engines used the reluctor ring on the crank for ignition timing?
Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.
