pressure plate bolts special?

pressure plate bolts special? Can they be substituted with a typical 12.8 Allen cap bolt? I've read one random post stating they have a conical under head that centers the pressure plate. True or false?
The following thread is about LT1 pp bolts. However, post #16 shows a photo of The Merv's LS1 pplate. After viewing it, I recalled that the pplate has two holes in it, through which two steel pins come through from the other side, to exactly center the plate. I just reinstalled my engine & trans (LS1), but can't recall the bolt shape.

They appear flat under the head.

The issue there is that my ram pressure plate does not have alignment pin holes. Therefore I had to remove the dowels. I'm assuming this is caused by my mating a SBC trans to an LS engine. I've read its quite common place to pull the dowels for this exact purpose.
If memory serves me correctly every SBC clutch under the sun has no dowel and plain jane bolts.
