New Bosch Injector Bad, Blows Motor
I purchased 42 pound Bosch Injectors from an authorized seller online. I got around to installing them yesterday. I started the car, everything ran great and then turned it off right away.
My car tuner came last night to tune the car for the larger injectors. When he started the car it sounded like something was in the oil pan. After further diagnostics, one of the brand new injectors was stuck open, spraying fuel into the motor which hydrolocked it and then blew the motor.
My first step is to take the new injector to get tested to prove it was faulty from the factory. I was going to then contact Bosch and see where I can go from there. Their headquarters is literally 1 mile from my house.
What is the chances that Bosch will hold themselves accountable for a bad part that blew my motor? I am going to start off very nice, but in this case I believe the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I am video documenting everything to prove the fault was on their product.
Thanks
I'm also going to guess that their warranty states something along the lines of warranty is for product replacement only. They may step up if it was a defect in the injector but I wouldn't hold your breathe.
Have not seen them "stuck open" when new, out of the box. [Been flow testing for over 20 yrs].I have seen them stick open once I trigger the test. Could have been what you experienced.
I've had several that had been on the shelf for so long, the lube had dried and stuck them shut.
That said, if it was stuck open to begin with, the cylinder could have well been flooded as soon as you turned key on to prime. If it was, then I'd wager the engine wasn't running "fine", when you shut it off.
[The rod just hadn't exited the block, yet.]
You started it before the tune was corrected for the new flow rate. Now, the engine is really fat.
Bosch rates at 3bar, you have a 4 bar reg. Thus, the new flow rate is not 42, it's 48+. At that flow rate, assuming the inj was really stuck open, the hydrolock could have happened very fast, especially if the valves were closed and the piston at/near tdc.
BTW, DO NOT have a 3rd party mess w/ that inj! Take the entire set, including all filters, [You DID change them, B4 the new injs were installed, right??] to Bosch, and let them test them.
Sorry for your problem. Good luck getting some relief from Bosch.
