Anyone Ever Cleaned Out The Cats?
Anyone Ever Cleaned Out The Cats? Has anyone ever taken the catalytic converters, drilled the fiberlass through and cleaned the mesh out completely to see if their were gains in horsepower or if it helped out? and if so what problems did u guys have or what did u think about it. would a DTC saying catalyst below effeciency affect the performance of the car?

I have no personal experience, but have heard from others that the exhaust tone is adversely affected.
The open chambers become home to rasp, echos, and pops.
Some folks have posted that they went so far as to pull the cats off after gutting, just so they could cut them in half and install a section of pipe. This is said to cure the sound problem, yet keep the cats 'visible'.

Edit: You would need some o2 simms to keep the computer happy after this mod.
