Default Hooker catback with 408...

Right now I'm running a 3" Y with a 3 to 4" merge and a system basically the same as the mufflex with a magnaflow and a dyno max bullet. The car is just way to loud. Here is my plan, I've got a hooker catback laying around I wanted to use so I'm going to leave the merge in place run a 4" I into a 4" cutout and behind the cutout reduce it back to 3" and run it through the hooker. Anybody see any down sides to this? Whose running a hooker catback with a 408? Still really loud?

I have been thinking about doing the same to my Hooker catback. Don't see why it won't work. Go for it... Post up some pics. Though the Hooker does flow well, I'm making 600 through mine.

A magnaflow bullet instead of dynomax in the I pipe would help the cause.

I can't get it to fit. That was actually the original plan.

Sounds like a good plan just make sure the transition on the 4" to 3" reducer isn't to abrupt. This way you avoid the possibility of adding drone or rasp to the exhaust tone. Imo if you can use a longer reducer transition without it causing possible issues, do so.

I'm gonna use the walker 41988 reducer. It was the only thing I could really find.

There's also the walker 41989 which will slip over the O.D. of the normal exhaust route exit on the cut-out instead of slip in the I.D. of it.

Then there's Burns Stainless which has short(3.74"L, 30* taper) and long(8.14" L, 14* taper) transitions(reducers) in both stainless($39) and mild steel($33). Btw, these are the actual lengths of just the taper for 4" to 3" transitions/reducers.
IMO, even the short reducer will allow a lot smoother flow going into the 3" pipe, and the long would likely be overkill or possibly just be a little too long for easy fitment.
