Default Ported throttle body problems

Apparently whoever ported the throttle body on my car got a little carried away. They enlarged the area around the blade too much and it was causing a high/searching idle. I'm currently running a borrowed (stock) throttle body from a friend until I decide what to do with mine. Could I fill in the hole in the throttle blade and cure the problem of it getting too much air at idle or should I just spend the cash and get a Nick Williams or something equivalent? Thanks

Ya I believe the blade is supposed to seal up when closed if there's a gap around it when closed its prob good for a paper weight now,get another one.

So no hope for it even if I fill in the hole in the blade?

you could put a small screw and nut through the hole (temporarily only) to see if it changes for the better. if so it could be welded shut.

From the pictures I dont see a gap. Where do you think air is getting past the blade ?

Take a piece of tape and put over the hole and start it and let it idle (make sure its good tape, masking tape etc) and start it see what happens. If its been cut around the blade its probably junk. If the tape somewhat helps the idle you may have adjust the blade to get the IAC counts back to normal but i would expect it to do some weird things.

Mine would get different codes like P0507 (idle higher than expected), I got one for IAC once, and a few times I would get oxygen sensor codes. Went back to stock throttle body and everything straightened out.

I'll try blocking the hole and see what happens. Right now the blade is adjusted to the point that it almost sticks closed from when I was trying to get idle back to normal. What kind of numbers do I need to look for on IAC? What kind of weird things?

If its not sealing correctly probably intermittent hanging idle, cruise control effect, up and down idle. If you can seal the blade and possibly tune the base running air flow table it may work out. You'll have to seal the blade then adjust the counts, I would shoot for around 40-50. If everything seems ok your probably fine. If not you may have to touch up the tune to make up for it. Make sure you do a tps reset also.
