Trying to find the vin plate

Trying to find the vin plate I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I figured this would be the authoritative source.
I picked up a LR4 for cheap for my Jeep swap from someone who was planning to do the same thing but ran out of time/money. I tried looking at the front right of the engine (Left when looking at it) but I all I was able to find was 3 or 4 raise numbers, covered in dirt.
I've been told it was from an 02 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4.
Does anyone know how I can determine what year engine this was?
I just don't want to start ordering parts for it to find that it's a completely different engine...
