Default Vacuum pump?

Hi guys,
just read a ridiculous thread (unhealthy and useless debate) about breathers on the pcv port and oil filler valve. Instead of all of this, would a simple vacuum pump do the same thing as the PCV? I'm thinking in theory it would do better than bypass air. Then you could route a tube outboard of the engine compartment to eliminate any oil back into the intake. Could also route into a vented catch can, for the hippies sake. Can I get some experts to approve the theory here?

Yes but there are some rules to follow.

Deadhead vac pump will not draw out any air (forget hydroboost pumps and similar systems).
It has to draw enough air with vac but not too much. No secret recipes.
Header Collectors are a fantastic vac source and they pull dirty air into dirty exhaust. Hippies can kiss my fossil fuel burning ***.
Clean air MUST enter the crankcase from a smaller port then dirty air is exiting. This will create vac conditions in the case and draw out blowby. A small breather filter fits over the ports and gives vac source some restriction.

PCV is still the cleanest and most efficient system.

My heads and intake were a nightmare to get clean. Surely that has a detrimental effect on performance too, correct? I agree that PCV is the easiest, just plug it back in.... But, there has to be a way to route it other than into the intake manifold that does well and is reliable. Just bouncing some ideas.

Dirty heads and intake do not affect performance. Street cams produce manifold vac when throttle closes causing dirty air to reverse back into the intake. Advanced theory claims the dirty coating actually helps a micro layer of air "stick" to the surface area allowing the greater mass of air to "roll" over it with reduced turbulence.

Anyways sounds like you want to read up on CRANKCASE EVACUATION. Plenty of ways to get the job done but there are considerations.

The ONLY reasons I would suggest ditching PCV system are 1. boost setup does not use filter to create strong vac source. 2. motor needs every octane point possible (oil vapor decreases effective octane rating). 3. race cam does not produce manifold vac.

I see what you are saying. KISS, Keep it simple. This is a 5500 lb truck, the less systems(ex AUX vacuum) I have the better. I had 240k before rebuilding, so it will make decent power with that much dirt in it. I will have it apart before another 240, anyway. Thanks for the info.
