Headers effect on temp...
I have a 5.3L in a 2000 Silverado 1500 Z71 that I have put a K&N cold air intake, throttle body spacer, underdrive pulleys, true dual exhuast (soon to have an X-pipe), a custom PCM tune and most recently my JBA titanium ceramic coated headers (shorties that bolt in place of the stock exhuast manifold). O.K. now for the question, my engine runs cooler now, used to be 210degrees and now never goes over about 180. This change came about right after teh header install, so I am wondering what affect this may have on my thermostat? Or any other advice you guys may have to try and tweek power/fuel economy out of it..... (Everything I have tried to do so far was in the effeort to try and get fuel economy AND power or power without losing the gas mileage.... gas is too darn expensive right now for the rest like a cam, injectors, ect...)
Thank you for your help, or your patience if I am in the wrong place....- Richard
The dissipate heat faster than cast iron.
The engine compartment gets this heat though, so it is hotter after headers.
I don't know for sure that this is what you are seeing, but this is true. Uncoated headers do this heat transfer even better.
