Default Oil pan help ...

Ok so I'm having a new lq9 370 built and kind of confused on which oil pan I need. I have searched for answers and read through a lot of threads but haven't really found my answer so I thought I'd try and ask here. I bought a oil pan off eBay. Description said oil pan 4.8 5.3 6.0 motors. Once I got the oil pan I looked for the PN# (12565684). Searched that PN# but didn't find much. The eBay add had a interchange PN# (311859). There was a link to Amazon and and showed the same oil pan I got from eBay. That description showed that it replaced PN# 12579273 which is the PN# recommended for 2000-2006 4.8 5.3 6.0 I had found that info out here.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-oil-pans.html

So I know I will need a oil pump pickup tube/screen, dip stick, dip stick tube and oring. Do I need a windage tray as well? Did all the lq9 motors come with windage trays? In my oil pan where the pick up goes into there is a small piece of sheet metal that covers the sump area. Is that a baffle? It has a PN# 12559510. I'm hoping someone can straighten me out on this. I'll post some pics of the oil pan also. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to LS1tech!

This can stay here.

Oil pan choice is vehicle specific. Tell us what vehicle you have and we'll tell you what pan works.

Unfortunately, the casting number is meaningless and doesn't match any actual GM oil pan part number.

BUT, it looks identical to the original GM pan for the 2006 Sierra, GM part number 12579273.

Second pan shown here, also gives you pickup, dipstick and windage tray info: http://www.ls1fc.com/techinfo/pans.htm

I think you're good to go plus you now know what else matches the pan.

Good luck with the build!

Here is what I found when I searched the interchange PN# 312859
Amazon.com: APDTY 375246 Oil Pan Assembly w/Drain Plug (OE Aluminum Design; 12579273): Automotive Amazon.com: APDTY 375246 Oil Pan Assembly w/Drain Plug (OE Aluminum Design; 12579273): Automotive
Yes, all the other PN#s are good and I have found them all. So there is no question that I would need a windage tray correct? If so it looks like I can just get all the rest of what I need individually.

hmmm, I don't know where you got that interchange number but all looks in order, you have the correct pan for your truck.

Yes, you need that windage tray and oil pump pickup.

The oil pan gasket will have a bolt hole for the "missing" bolt hole in the pan. Your block may-or may not have a threaded hole for a bolt.

This was my build, I'd add the hole to the pan and if it's missing from the block, drill & tap it for a bolt. Not too deep, get it straight.

I'd also have a look in the oil passages into, through and returning from the oil filter. Often there's casting flashings and partially blocked passages. Be careful, but clean them up a bit. Wash as needed.

Awesome thank you for the help Paul. I'm basically trying to find everything I will need to make a complete drop in motor. Pretty much all the covers, coil sets and misc sensors.

Default Help on splash plate

I have a 05 5.3 from a gmc sierra originally my neighbor was going to rebuild it so he had everything torn apart before he unfortunately passed away. I have the motor now completed after doing research on building a ls. But part number 12559510(splash plate) doesn’t have any bolts for it, anyone know where i can get these bolts or would i be ok on not putting it back on my motor?

Yes you need that baffle, it's there to keep the oil from sloshing during hard breaking or acceleration and causing oil pressure dropping to 0 psi !!!

Thats the cheaper option but Summit, Jeg's and others sell a set of 7 bolts for $20. (I was trying to google what size they are) ICB-551418 ; Summit Racing Part Number: ICB-551418.
