Running rich ???
Swapped a 98 LS1 into my Jeep a few years ago, had some mods already done to it:
LS6 Intake/ Stock TB
LS6 243 casting heads "untouched"
LS6 Oil Pump
LS6 Factory Replacement Timing Set
Roller Rockers 1.7 ratio
LS7 Lifters
7.45 inch Chromoly Pushrods
Patriot Gold Extreme .660 lift springs
Titanium Locks and Retainers
228/232 .600/.600 lift on 111LSA camshaft
.040 Cometic Headgaskets
ASP 25% Underdrive Crank Pulley
I swapped in a factory cam, bought a computer / harness and had it tuned to delete rear O2 sensors. Never got it running after the swap, and it sat for a few years while I was out of the country. Came back and got it running, left it with open headers & forward O2 sensors for a few more years. Started it about once a month, charged the battery when it died.
About 6 months ago, I swapped in a new dash and wiring harness for the entire Jeep. Put pipes and mufflers on it, true duals with no cross. Had a shop tidy up some wiring stuff I couldn't figure out. Ran decently well, leaked some oil and exhaust smelled like fuel. Fixed the leaks, got it "street legal," drove it around.
1 month ago, I took it to Cunningham Motorsports in Murrieta, CA to put it on the dyno and tune it, with the hopes of making it not smell like fuel anymore. It does run better now, but still stinks terribly. It is a soft top, and the pipes exit straight out the back under the bumper, so after even a short 5 - 10 minute drive my clothes stink like exhaust and i need a shower to get the smell off me.
I don't think cats will fix it. I think it is running rich and the cats will just get clogged and fail after a few months. The exhaust shop I took it to did an excellent job, I searched for leaks with soapy water and found nothing.
What gives? Open to any and all suggestions. My Jeep is a registered antique in Virginia, so no I do not have to CA smog it. I'm sure I've left out something so feel free to ask.
