Default Single 4" vs Kooks TDs

Hey guys I've been researching this a lot, but really can't make up my own mind. I'll be getting my new motor in October and am trying to buy up all the other stuff I'll need to toss in at the same time. The motor is a 416 LS3 that should be making 650+ at the crank. Built 4L60E with a Yank 3400 and 4.10 geared MWC Fab 9 in a 99 Z28, if that matters to anyone. I'll be buying either 1 7/8 or 2" Kooks headers also.

I'll lay out how I would option either one.
Kooks TD would be catted with quad tips. Buying the pan hard relocation and correct torque arm crossmember is a non-issue. It would undoubtedly sound the best, I know. The cost though.... Still hard to stomach despite how much it actually is worth it.

If I went the single 4" route, I'd run a 3" Y to 4" merge, followed by an e-cutout and muffler of choice. I'd want to install another Y after the rear end to connect that to a CME setup.

So which would it be for you? Higher cost, beautifully made, better sound, and maybe more power? Or lower cost, volume on demand, and CME?

Ultimately comes down to what you just said....can you justify it. Doubt you'll find any quantifiable data for gain/loss differences, but imagine having a system that you'll never have to replace. My vote (biased) is kooks and don't look back. Be patient getting it over that 9

look for a used kooks setup . Ive seen 2 or 3 with less than 100 miles on here . My bro got his used with 15 miles on it . Its just wicked loud and too loud for some even with the cats.

Sawblade..... it's me again. I have kooks true duals under my car. I have the quad tips. I paid 1200 shipped for my exhaust system. I ordered it from Maryland Speed. I get a lot of comments on how the car sounds.

While researching I have found a few threads where people said they got the LTs and TDs together for wayyyyyy cheap, but the threads are a few years old and I wasn't sure if that was still a thing or not. One of them said they got LTs, TDs, and panhard relocation for 2100 shipped. Now THAT I wouldn't hesitate on lol ultimately the TD setup is what I want, and it's not a matter of can I afford it, but should I. I like the idea of never buying another system, but man... CME is sexual. Why can't I just have both?!
Tusky- I saw their ad in the sponsor sales section and was thinking of calling them to see if I could work out something other than just free coating. Is that how you got that price? I'm probably gonna call a few sponsors and see who can give me the best price.

It's a member on named Quik01SS. Look him up. He did you kooks true duals into the CME. It was a awesome thread.
Otherwise I called Maryland speed a day they posted on here saying today is a great day to save on kooks products. Don't hesitate call then!! Another way to chew a seller down... say such and such speed shop has the same exhaust system for 200 bucks less..... you'll be surprise how serious of a discount you can get by lying on the telephone.

Definitely going to look that up because I'm totally onboard with that!

I wasn't sure if jewing of any sort with a sponsor was "proper etiquette" or not. I'll take that as a green light lol

im doing true duals to cme. i have true duals right now but dumped at axle. love the sound. im going to 2 1/2 inch instead of my 3inch i have now so i can lower the car and maybe quiet it down some. i have the panhard relocation already so i can go over the axle. then just a matter of bending pipe putting my single chamber mufflers in the right spots (on the sides of the gas tank, where the gaps are) then coming back to center for the tips...

Man....I still don't get the loud thing with you guys. Maybe I'm going deaf, but my isn't any louder than my Corsa was. Must be lack of power, lol

Same here...my Kooks TDE is only really loud at WOT. I can cruise around with a passenger and have a conversation without any trouble.

It isn't. At this point in the build, exhaust is the cheap part. I went with the Kooks combo.

And why are you going from 3 down to 2 1/2 . You should be able to do 3, unless drop way down in the weeds. Like to see a pic of your duals that are dumped right now , can you post a pic.

Kooks TDs. I had them on my bolt-on Camaro. People said I was crazy for spending that coin on full exhaust until they heard it at WOT. It will also never be a restriction for your setup, no brainer.

They drone horribly with a high stall converter. I'm thinking of swapping out the mufflers for Magnaflows... At idle or WOT they sound insane.

due you think some of that is due to the overlap from your cam? I do not have any drone when the converter is unlocked, but I do get some drone with the converter locked @ 45mph slightly accelerating. 5 degrees overlap 3800 stall. what about adding resonators in the mid pipe instead of cutting out the stock mufflers?
