^^^Wouldn't you want it connected the other way so that the air gets sucked through the steel wool to the intake? That way there is reduced chance of sucking in the oil at the bottom of the jar.

The dirty air needs to go through the steel wool first to slow it down to allow it to condense. Other cans are designed the same way.

Even emptying it only at an oil change, it accumulates about a inch of oil, well below the steel can. And I do look at it often, if it would ever get high, I can simply empty it.

The beauty of the clear jar is at a glance I can see how much is in there. No guessing what's inside.

The substantially larger diameter of a 4" can causes a much slower air flow allowing more time for stuff to fall out of the stream of gases.

So, I might build two of the PVC contraptions ...
My fresh air side is just an oil filler breather. I run a SD tune so there's no MAF flow for the PCV that has to be measured. The beauty of that setup is there is no need for a check valve on the fresh air side. Most setups I see have no check valve on the fresh air side and they should have one. They connect on a standard setup to between the MAF and TB where vapors under WOT gets sucked into the manifold.

Under wide open throttle is when the most blow-by is created and that is the exact time that there is no manifold vacuum to pull those vapors through the catch can. Vapor pressures can only go either through the standard catch can setup or up the even less restricted fresh air side to in front of the TB bypassing the CC. Mine just relieves itself out the breather.
