Will the passenger side cat for 2000-2002 f bodies bolt up to a 1998 exhaust manifold? I plan on buying the Hooker Blackheart 50 state cat-back dual exhaust and would rather have everything bolt together instead of welding the passenger side cat on. Here are the installation directions so you can see what I'm talking about.

Should bolt up but I can't confirm that for you, are you trying to stay 50 state legal? because fitting a newer style cat on your 98/99 exhaust will not be emissions legal. It's likely a shop will not notice it, but in that case you can swap in some 00-02 exhaust manifolds and pickup a couple extra HP in the process and still look completely stock.

 

The inspection process here in NJ isn't nearly as strict as what you have in Cali. As long as there are no codes, readiness monitors are complete, and the inspector sees cats, you're good to go. The 00-02 manifolds are good idea for a bit more power, the only problem is I would lose EGR function. I might put a set of shorty headers on. That way I'm still legal and everything bolts on.

 

I'd say get some shorty headers in that case! you can get them for pretty cheap... the non-cali legal ones that is.

 

00 manifolds are the same design as 01-02, but with EGR port.
