Default PaceSetter LT installation tips?

I just ordered a set of PaceSetter LTs and would appreciate any installation tips. These are going on a 99 MN6 with a Borla cat-back. I'm getting a set of stock GM exhaust gaskets and will be reusing my stock exh. manifold bolts.Is there a particular type of clamp that is recommended with these? I know that with the new batch no cutting of the K-member is required, but how about grinding of the casting flash on the block? any suggestions are highly appreciated.

I tried the search feature and did not find anything on my last few Qs ; before I get any smarty-pants remarks about our SEARCH feature.

The fit should be fine. Occasionaly you might have to grind a tad off the block, but there's no way to know before you start. The best clamps I've used for these are the ones that use one bolt to tighten with a cantilever mechanisim.

My headers slid right in. No steering rack removal, kmember, or block modification.

I got the 3" stainless steel preformed bandclamps from jegs. I also used some orange sensor safe rtv right around the joint before I put the clamp on.

If you are getting the ypipe. You *may* need a tailpipe expander. Autozone rents them, hope you have an impact wrench.

On my ypipe. I would see if you could get the ends expanded(the ends that connect to the headers) a couple more inches On my ypipe, I wouldn't have had many problems if the ypipe slide on the headers another couple of inches.

check da sig...keep in mind thats for the older style but its pretty close for the new ones but from what i hear you wont have to clearance the kemember.

for all those who have done pacesetter installs, how high were your cars when you installed them? did you use a jack, ramps?

check my sig for install height its HIGH!! i used my 6 ton jack with like 3 or 4 2x4's stacked on it lol. Dont forget to jack the rear up to a minimum of your max jack height though before hand otherwise you could very well have a catastrophe on your hands.

We had the car on four jackstands, all the way to the last notch on the stands. We also had ramps with 2x4s on them under the wheels for added safety in case the stands gave way for any reason or tipped over.

I had the older batch of Pacesetters, and we had to notch the k-member and unbolted the steering linkage to get the driver's side in. I don't think you'll have to do that with the new batch. Also, use some Liquid Wrench on your old manifold and exhaust bolts, as those are probably pretty well rusted on... spraying the ends of of the piping that will slip fit (like y-pipe to headers, y-pipe to i-pipe, etc) with WD-40 helps them to slip together if the openings are close to being the same size.

I would buy some new gaskets as well, but the old ones can be reused... my old ones weren't in that great of shape even at only 18k miles, so I was glad to have some new ones. Also I ended up accidently tearing one of my sparkplugs, so it'd might be a good plan to have some extras around just in case.

I helped install a set last weekend. Prefit the y-pipe to the headers just to make sure they slide together. As soon as you get the old y-pipe off, make sure the Pacesetter y will slide into the i-pipe. My buddies did not, both pipes were the same diameter. I would rent a pipe expander beforehand just in case. The headers themselves slid right in.
