Default Oil pan alignment where to check?

I looked through a couple threads and could not find a definite answer. I just installed and oil pan I want to make sure I'm using a straight edge on the correct areas. On the driver side of the motor everything looks perfect. Not sure where to measure on the passenger side. The oil pan I bought had the gasket riveted to it, not sure how the oil pan can really be off alignment. The attached picture shows that the driver side is flush with the engine.

The oil pan can protrude behind the trans mating surface of the block. I've seen pics of blocks that cracked when the trans was bolted up tight.
Easiest thing is to tighten the pan after the trans/bell is bolted up.
BTW, did you put a dab of RTV at the 4 joints on the block?

Yes I put some ultra black rtv on the 4 points of the front and rear cover. I guess my question is where does the air need to be flush? Since the motor and grand are going in. 1971 c10 I won't be able to make adjustments due to clearance once the motor is in the truck

I believe you may be over thinking this... I just lined up the bolt holes, torqued them down and added some rtv to all 4 corners and called it good... No leaks since install...

flush or even forward a bit will work.
But sticking out back is bad. There's a thread over on Pro-touring with pics of that bad result.
