My Jet Hots have a slight tint of rust to them down by the collectors that easily comes off with some aluminum polish. I clean the rust off every oil change to keep it from building up.
BTW Corsa sounds awesome with Longtubes and a Catted Y pipe!

I wonder if the rusting will still occur even if you get under the car and do a good cleaning of the headers every couple of months. I hear Jethot recommends this and very few people do it. The ones that do however, have posted pics after a year and the coating is still there and they look almost new.

do you drive in rain/snow at all? My car sees rain every once in a while because I dont have a garage, but it stays covered in the parking lot during the winters.

1ssmokinls1, The SS is a daily all year rain or shine or snow driver along with my lifted TJ Wrangler. So it see's plenty of salt, snow, water etc. After driving on salty roads use a garden hose to rinse off the collectors after about 10 mins of cooling. I 've found this really helps to keep them from rusting. Every oil change polish them up with a good aluminum polish and they will shine just don't let the rust build up too much. If your car sits outside all winter I would upon storage hit the headers with a fogging oil of some sort to also help in preventing rust.

I want to reduce underhood heat and the coating helps by keeping more heat in the header and radiating less into the engine bay. It reduces the heat picked up by the intake manifold and puts less stress on other underhood components.

The underhood temp is higher because the headers are dissipating heat... that is one of the header's good points.
I think that we both agree that we want the heat to exit the cylinder via the exhaust port. However, I do not want headers to disapate the heat under the hood. I want the headers to send the energy from both the exhaust pulse and heat downstream. If disapating the heat immediately upon leaving the exhaust port were valuable, you would see headers with cooling fins added to them in order to increase the surface area used to radiate (and therefore disipate) the heat (along with a louver in the head for the heat to escape like the Chrysler turbos used in the 80's).

Thanks for that. Do you think something like wd-40 would be good when going to put it in storage?

I would skip on the WD40 and try and find a fogging oil of some sort. If you have any local marine or waterski shops they will have it. Us boaters use it upon storing our boats for the winter. I spray it directly into the Holley 850 carb on my 360 SBC to lubricate the cylinder walls and everything else to keep it from rusting during the winter. Another good rust preventer is a product in a spray can called BreakFree CLP. Very good stuff that I use on my firearms all the time. HTH

Excellent! Thanks for the help. I don't mind getting under there every once in a while and cleanin them up if it will help prevent the rusting.
