Default Lsx cooling

Hi in my vega I am running a 5.3. Using a northern radiator from summit the core measure 19x21"

I have made an aluminum shroud for it it is tight to the rad and completely sealed. As for the fan I am using a big electric fan from a late 90s crown Vic. Now because of the limited space in the vega. I removed the motor and fan blades only from the fan assembly. My shroud is 3" deep so what I did was basically cut a 4" hole in the centre of the new shroud mounted the motor from the outside with the shaft sticking though to the inside. Now the fan blades go on the shaft from the inside of the shroud and clip on like the factory. Basically the entire fan is encased inside the shroud only the motor sticks out. So instead of cutting a hole the size of the fan itself the only hole is the size for the motor(4")

Just not sure if this is a good way of doing as I've never seen one done like this and if the back(motor side of the fan can be completely sealed or should I cut some slots or something?

Not good. Where do you expect the air to go when the fan blades spin? You're putting a fan inside of a closed box.

The hole in the shroud needs to be as big as the fan blades.

Kinda figured it wouldn't be any good like that. Just didn't want to cut it yet unless I knew for sure. Thanks for the answer I guess I will be cutting some slots in the aluminum extending from the motor to the outside tips of the fan blades leaving the centre section where the motor bolts to a 4 spokes to connect. If that makes any sense

That would work. I'd also put a bead down the center of the "spokes" to make them a bit stiffer.

Most electric fans come with a plastic grill that mounts to a flat surface. That is plenty strong enough to support the fan for years. You'd be time ahead using that. Mount the plastic grill on the inside with spacers to give you the room you need.
