Default i have to start 89 ls1 with screwdriver

Ok I put a screwdriver across the lugs of the selonoid on the starter and it fired up. What is making me have to do that and what do I need to fix? Thank you

That's not an easy question to answer with the little information you provided. Could have many causes. In a nutshell, Your not getting switched power to the solenoid. Could be wired wrong could be a bad switch could be lots of things.

ok thank you. I'll try to provide some more info. The car was running great then I drove it up a drive way and something scraped the bottom and it just started clicking after that. It just clicks, then I put a screw driver across the selonoid lugs the two big ones and it fired right up

If it solenoid clicks when you try to start it but doesn't turn over yet starts when you bypass the solenoid by crossing the lugs then I would assume the solenoid is bad. Most auto parts stores can test it if you take the starter to them.
