Default gains from Mac mid length

I need some feedback on this mod.If i was to put Mac mid length headers with cats and a Y pipe on my convertible what would my gains be in the way of HP.I've been told i may gain 5 HP,that would be a joke for the $1000.00 investment.

What do you think. If i could pick up 15 ponies i would do it.

You can pick up Macs with an ORP for $499 last time I checked.

You can expect a solid 20rwhp after macs with a tune. (Hell, you can lose 5hp after a header install if your a/f is thrown way off!)

However, I would have gone with Hooker LTs if they were available when I installed my Macs since the price is similiar.

You will pick up roughly similar top-end gains as with longtubes.

Longtubes would have more mid and low end power, and slightly more top end.

I'm happy with my Macs, I made 410rwhp/415rwtq N/A through them with 3" CarSound cats.

The macs are a great header in my opinon. I installed them had no troubles with them but now that prices are down I would probly go with a hooker or hedman headers setup.

You can pick up nearly the gains of LT's, especially if you port the primaries.

With a 2002 car I don't think you will see a lot of gains from mac's. The 01/02 cars had good exhaust manafolds. Go with LT's. I gained 24 rwhp w/Kooks LT's.

Hey bro,

In my opinion, I would stay away from MACs. I only say this because I helped install a set and I thought that they were a PITA to install! Not only that, I'm sure that within a matter of time you'll probably want to swap them out with long tubes. I would just get the long tubes for around the same price.

Good luck modding...

I picked up mine for 260 and I thought they were super easy to install (both from the top). I am make decent power with them. I got them cuase they work, they were cheap, and easy to install.

How so and compared to what? My go in from the top with very little problems and zero fitment issues. I've to take them them off at least 4 times with no problems.

You can get uncoated Pacesetter LT's for 279 at Texas-Speed. But thats not what you were asking. I have heard gains are very similar until you start modding big. What are your plans for the car? That's the biggest question I think. Don't do something you would regret later on down the road....

Longtubes hang low on lowered cars.I have to be carefull going over speed bumps now, entering driveways can be a bitch too with another person in the car.

The mid lengths look like they would tuck up in there nicely. It's a tough issue,i want to make the right decision.

Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do.I am getting headers one way or the other.

Like i said,if I could pick up 15 HP with little Macs and a tune I will do it.From what you guys are telling me I very well could get the 15 HP I'm looking for.

It would be cool if somebody dynoed their LS1 after a little Mac intall.

Every little bit helps,I noticed a difference when I swapped out the SLP lid with the TSP lid,it wasn't a big difference, but I felt the slight change,

I dynoed 293 hp and Tq with a lid and muffler. After installing my small T1 cam and Macs it made 374 hp 372 Tq. This was without an LS6 intake or ported TB.

I also had a buddy who used to have a Procharger on his T/A. He had MAc's headers and Y with Corsa catback and put down 548. I don't think they are much of a restiction and I think they make decent power down low. I just couldn't pass mine up for the deal I got them for with the Y pipe.

I gained 21rwhp and 14 trq on a stock internal motor. When I dynoed it was over 100F.

Headers are a great mod. The catback not so much. I would do a lid or intake before doing the catback if your looking for numbers.
