Default Tips on header install

Anything I should know about installing BBK shorties. I have never done anything this intensive before. We have everything: headers, GM gaskets, NGK TR55 plugs, Taylor 8mm wires, Taylor heat sleeves for the wires, gaskets for the Y pipe, and a six pack. TIA for replying.

Remove your steering shaft and all will be well. On the driver side that is. Passenger side just finagle it and you should be ok.

We got them in. They look great! We opened up and smoothed out all the primaries. There is a lip on the flange that we smoothed out also. We rounded it off for better flow. It should be fun. In 3 days, I get my new y pipe put in, so right now I still have stock y pipe and cats in. It sounds great.

I recently had a replaced driver side LT installed at a LS1 specialty shop. It only took them 45 mins.

The install took about seven good hours, though we spread it out over Fri and Sat because I had to stop and go to work. My buddy's dad helped me out along with my buddy and it was a learning experience for all of us. My buddy's dad has done numerous LT1 shorty installs, but never worked on an LS1. I had never done anything so labor intensive so it was definitely a bonding experience with my car, I love her even more now.

Anyways as far as performance goes, my buddy has a built 96 LT1 that before the install was even with my car in a street race. I would eventually pull on him up above 100 mph. Now I start pulling on him as soon as I shift into second. I'd say by 100 mph, I already have two car lengths on him.

On Tuesday I get my y pipe done and I will be dying to go to the track for some actual measurable results. I'll post as soon as I can. I may go to the track as soon as Wed. I'll keep you guys updated. Overall, I am not disappointed with choosing shorties at all because I can still pass smog in CA.

If its going to be illegal you might as well put that carb # on some LTs.

beat me to it. cuz either way your **** out of luck if you get picked for a state run test only place so you might as well enjoy the benefits of LT's.

Most places around here won't care as long as the cats are in the stock location, for all they know they are Hookers or JBAs. I know the JBAs have a CARB # so I know someone who will stamp a CARB # on mine from the JBAs and the smog ***** will never know. Just about every smog shop WILL realize that you have LTs on, but almost none will be able to visually tell the difference between JBAs and BBKs.
