Default metal bracket on intake

moving along here on my intake swap, have the front 6 bolts off, working on the back 4. I was just curious, I read about there is a metal bracket on the drivers side on the last 2 bolts, what is the purpose of this metal bracket?

I believe it protects the fuel rail in the event of a crash.

Also, my ls3 intake had a thin bracket held down by an intake bolt and a fuel rail bolt. Almost tossed it, but thought about it some... I wonder if it's to "ground" the fuel rail via the intake bolt. I ended up reinstalling it. Gm did these things for a reason I guess.

On my LS6 intake it doesn't touch the fuel rail. I tried to put it on my FAST 102 but the runners were too wide and it wouldn't sit flat. Shimmed it up with 2 washers and went to put it on but couldn't get the threads to engage, ended up taking the intake back off so I could toss the bracket.
