Mounting tensioner NOT on water pump
My tensioning pulley tilts a bit when the belt load is placed on it. That's why I was asking about mounting points other than the pump.
This all goes back to me trying to figure out why I threw the belts last week. Based on my searches I am not alone and it looks like the LS1 tensioner is well known for throwing belts during performance driving. The LS2 pulley is an improvement with higher rim height. But I decided to jump deeper in to the pool by getting a manual tensioner from Katech. Replacing belts, and the potential collateral damage can get stupid expensive.

I've owned 5 different fbodies and beat the **** out of everyone of them and never shredded a belt. It sounds like your actual tensioner assembly is bent from a pulley seizing up.

Sure. But I can tell you your experience is not normal and is not common.
