Cold Air Intakes Hi guys, my question today is about cold air intakes. Since you can't buy a cold air intake kit for a 5.3 Vortec to fit a 1985 S10 pickup, I may have to make one up. I have read you should have a resonator in the system for proper air flow movement, metering and noise reduction. I have seen MAF sensors mounted directly to the throttle body but there may be a metering problem and you may not know it. If you just add a 90 degree elbow and a long tube coming out throttle body and the MAF sensor at the end it may sound like a fart machine. I also read the MAF sensor should be 10"or more from the throttle body for proper metering. Will any resonator do that I dig up at a salvage yard that fits work and or are they designed just for that application and of course there is the issue of space under the hood. Any suggestion or input would be welcome and appreciated. Thank You.

Just run a 90 deg. ell off the TB into a straight tube about 10" long or better, in the MIDDLE of which you will run the MAF. It does not like to be near turns in the airpath. You don't see resonators in DIY air setups.

Thanks G Atsma, it looks like the simpler the better, some of the configuration I see are complicated and expensive, if I have any problems I won't have a lot of money invested and could go from there. What do you think about the noise issue, I don't want something that sounds lame.
