Default Ideas for new muffler?

Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster, so I have a 1998 Trans Am WS6 Ls1 and it currently has a Flowmaster (40 series?) catback, and the system it's self is in great shape I just think it's a bit quiet for me, I would love to just replace the current muffler I believe it's a 2.5 inch one in two out standard muffler with something louder, any thoughts?

Thanks so much for your time,
Brandon

As far as I can tell (catback came on the car when I bought it) the rest is stock

If you're going to leave the headers and y-pipe stock maybe something like a Flomaster 10 series or even a SLP Loudmouth might do the trick

Is your muffler 1 pipe into the right side, 1 pipe each end going out? If so the one going in is 3", the ones out I think are 2-1/2". That muffler is the 80-series, and is known for bring a real choker, surprising for a Flowmaster.

Yes so I am not 100 percent what I want to do with the car, I currently live and commute into DC so I was looking at picking up a Chevy SS as a better daily commuter, but I love the car so much. Haha But appreciate the input

Yes I believe the muffler is as you describe so that would make it the Flowmaster 80 series, not huge fan of the sound but the piping is in great shape so trying to save it and money where I can.

So I love the way the Loudmouth sounds do you think it would be possible if I bought one muffler or resonator and had a shop cut the old muffler out and weld the new one in and some piping of course or should I just buy a new catback all together?
🤔

The slp loudmouth is a totally different design than your current flowmaster. You need to just swap the standard crossflow muffler out for another one that sounds how you like it.

I have the Flomaster 80 series on mine. I can vouch that it is a choker for sure. When I open the electric cutout, the car feels much more responsive... but too loud for the street. I’m also in the market for a direct replacement for the 80 series.

If you like the Flowmaster sound, but with way less backpressure, get a series 50 or better with 3" inlet on one end, and (2) 2-1/2" outlets on the other end and run two left side tailpipes, if you don't mind the look. It's the 80 series crossflow design that chokes it.

I’ve been looking at the Spintech mufflers for a replacement to keep the split dual pipes. Haven’t heard much about Spintech stuff though.
