I have the Advance Auto rental tool pushing on a socket, I have it set up I think correctly (see pics) but this pulley just won't come off !!!!! I have used a 1000+ ft. lbs air gun and it ain't budging. Now it won't even unscrew to come off LOL.. hope I didn't destroy this tool.
I don't have a flywheel holding tool, can I just stick a bar through the flexplate to hold the crank while I get a giant ratchet on the sucker? I don't want to wait to order a flywheel tool because of the delay. This is Lq4 iron block, should be OK, right? Anyone have a DIY technique for this?
Well, I decided to try it, and seemed promising at first as my long breaker bar was actually turning and I could see the threads weren't stripping, but after maybe 4 or 5 complete revolutions I could see the pulley never moved. So backed it off and found that the puller tool ground itself into the socket and trashed the socket and ate up the tip of the tool.
So, were done with the tool. I guess it's off to the machine shop we go.
Heat it with a propane torch and hit it with some Kroil, then try it again...
Just to follow up for anyone reading this later, the machine shop had a puller that used what appeared to be a pushrod that went into the crank, and they used a harbor freight earthquake air gun and it came off pretty quick. He didn't even take the block out of my SUV hatch LOL. I thought I had the right tool for the job, but apparently not.
