Alternator question??
Alternator question?? If I attach a 2 gauge wire from mu negative battery to chassis ground, would that be sufficient for my Mechman 250 amp alternator if I just connect it to the chassis or should I run a 2 gauge wire from chassis ground to the bolt that connects the alternator to the chassis?
Almost all of this is backwards. The most important ground is from the battery to engine, which is already around a 2 gauge. Go ahead and run a larger one from the battery to the chassis. Also run a larger wire from the alternator charging post to the battery to help transfer the power to the batt.
My recommendation would have been to put a $50 145 amp used truck alternator on it and a over drive pulley to get the alternator speed you need and also have higher amperage output.
Even billy bad *** alternators have a minimum speed they need to turn to output. Did you ask mechman about that?
If nothing else, turn up the idle speed to 900 or so, or ditch the under drive, or add an over drive to the alt, or all of it.
