Default Header uninstall

This may be a dumb question but...

How hard is it to remove a longtube header on the drivers side? Want to wrap mine to lower the underhood temps. I know the pass side is a cinch (had it out once before). I figure I'll have to unbolt the steering shaft. With that out of the way can I pull it from the top or will it still have to come out the bottom? Does the alt need to get unbolted as well?

They're hooker blackheart longtubes, just in case.

Uh, if you wrap the headers, they will not last very long. The contained heat will deteriorate the metal at an accelerated rate.

What feels hot to you isn't actually very hot to the stuff under your hood. Those are stainless already, aren't they? Stainless is already very good at containing heat. Unless you have a family of chipmunks living under your hood that you're afraid my die, you're not gonna be doing much by wrapping stainless headers. Stainless is actually prone to cracking over time with lots of heat cycling, you may end up accelerating that.

My main reason is that my iats are getting pretty high due to heat soak. Something like 130 degrees-ish.

There is a powder coater near me that can do a ceramic coating. Either way, I still need to know how hard it is to remove the drivers side

Take that steering knuckle out and take it out the bottom. I think it's easier that way.

I doubt it's the heat that will "deteriorate" the metal. More than likely it's the moisture that the wrap will trap.

True with mild steel that will rust fast, but with SS it's heat cycling, especially when wrapped. The headers can go red hot easily when wrapped like that, and stay that way under load. Enough times doing that heat treats the metal enough to weaken it a lot after a while. Fatigue from normal vibration will make it crack at the welds and bends.
