Default LS6 Intake Swap

Everywhere I look on here I see threads on how to do this intake swap. There seem to be only two options. Option 1 is plug the back coolant ports and use a crossover for the coolant in the front. Option 2 is grind the bottom 'ribs' off the intake in the places where you need the clearance for the ls1 crossover coolant line. I don't really want to do either of these, I would rather run a coolant system as close to my stock system as possible while incorporating this new intake. Is there anything out there that will get this accomplished? I have looked at trying to get stock ls6 crossover lines but they don't seem to be available anywhere anymore.

Any information helps. Thanks in advance.

Do want stock or do you want this intake? GM has been running blocks on one end and two point bubble tube on the other end for more years than they put the larger 4 point tubes on, so just get the more modern setup or order two sets of aftermarket blocks from say Holley and run -4 an hose from both ends to the normal location. Unless your pushing things really hard and making air pockets in the coolant through heat, it just needs to remove bubbles from the highest point of the motor the front.

The answer is I want both. I work in software so giving people everything they want in today's technological world is basically my job.

Anyway, the reason is I like the performance improvement of the intake and I have been informed that it will handle the psi from the turbo better than the ls1 intake. However, I don't want to change any of the cooling properties of the stock set up as it was designed pretty well. Now I could just be wrong in thinking that the performance increase of the turbo set up combined with the blocks in the back of the cooling ports might have adverse effects on the running temp of the motor, and if that is the case I wouldn't mind doing it. I just don't know enough about the blocking set up to know if it is going to negatively effect my running temp when its under high rpm and boost for longer stretches of time, like during a few laps on a road track.

Am I way off here?

Running it hard and for long pulls is the only time having all 4 points really matters. This is why the stock setup for the last 16 years just uses the front 2, not needed for stock. Another thing to check is those things will clog over time and the safest thing would be to do aftermarket blocks, but at least make sure you test the flow of the tube before using it again.

When I had a Dorman LS6 manifold, it cleared the stock 4 point lines with a little massaging.

I ran the ls6 style crossover for years (two rears plugged) never had an issue with cylinder 7. Ws6store sells the crossover kit I would run it and not look back.

This has been a number of years ago, but I purchased two front LS6 Crossover Tubes. I bolted one in place behind the intake (the other in the front) and plumbed it with some rubber fuel line to the hose coming off front crossover with a "T" Connector then to the Radiator.

This setup works exactly like the tubes under the LS1 Intake with no need to shave the bottom of your LS6.

The Crossovers are available, provided you're willing to give the Auctioneer the asking price.

There are multiple easy bolt-on kits that do just that. Simply Google or eBay search "LS1 Steam Vent Kit" to see what I am referring to. Mostly all site sponsors will carry multiple brands of this product.

I flattened my 4 corner lines slightly to clear the ls6 intake. Worked fine for me.

This. The GTO version comes with the rears blocked and the front attached to a cross tube which inturn is plumbed to the radiator. This set up allows the air pockets to escape through to the radiator expansion tank. I never had a problem and have had three different cams and two different head swaps over the years. I also circuit race, going north of 120 at over 5K RPMs on the stretches and never had a problem with number 7.

Just shave the bottom, I used a chisel and a hammer and just tapped lightly. Super easy and perfect fitment.
