Default Collapsed Oil Filter!

Well for the first time in over 20 years of wrenching I went to change my oil on an 04 Silverado I just acquired and the cheap “speedy lube” crumpled like a coke can against my wrench. Apparently the hulk tightened it. I’ve tried to used a flat head and hammer it free but no luck. My last option is to take the oil fitting loose from the oil pan and attempt to get the filter off it or get a new fitting. Does anyone happen to know the size needed to get it loose? All mine are either too big or too small.

The fabled Reynolds Wrap oil filter...… Been there, but lucked out and got it off. PITA though....

Those MFR's! You just gotta love them speedy lube centers. The're bad about over tightening the oil pan bolts too.

From what I read it’s a 17mm but I tried one last night and it didn’t work. Looks like a 14-15mm so gonna grab standard and metric sizes and try today

It’s not the drain plug. It’s the oil filter adapter that the filter screws on to. A hex socket should get it out.

1/2” hex socket got it right out with ease. Filter is froze to it. Have a new one coming in today.

One reason to opt for the K&N but I still just tighten by hand and give a 1/4 turn.

I always use k&n and only go 1/2-3/4 past snug hand tight. Just did the wife’s 2012 Escalade a week ago. This is just the joy of buying a used truck.

No kidding! Not sure if the OP tried this on a cold engine but I assume once the engine is heated up it would have came off easier.

It was fairly warm but I’ve leaned my lesson with changing oil on a full temp truck. I tried heating it and it still wouldn’t come out. New plug went in fine and I’m running 40 psi at idle and 60-80 when I romp on it
