First of, I have search alot on the topic but I dont get it.
I have LQ4 engine, with LQ4 alternator swaped in to my chevy 56.
I want the charge indicator light to work.
What I understand from reading in schematics the brown wire from alternator goes in to the pcm.
Then pcm communicate with cluster by canbus. My chevy 56 doesnt have canbus and I need the light to work.
Because PCM send voltage to alternator, I guess its bad ide to send external voltage through lamp to brown?!
Can I maybe wire brown through lamp to ground?
teh old days, it was the difference in potential between the field and output that causes the light to turn on,,
with a newer car its and active light,, Have you considered a gauge with a light?
I didn't run a factory pcm, I run a Holley system but I wired my late 2000's corvette alternator ( Gm 25888970) the old fashion way where the dummy light is used as the exciter. The light comes on as it should when the key is on and then once the alternator is putting out a charge the light turns off. I don't know what alternator that is but you should be able to find a diagram for it online.
This is how mine is wired but I used the dummy light instead of a resistor.
