Default LS6 Harmonic balancer

I have a 2001 LS6 with 40,000 miles on it .I'm putting it in a restomod and have the motor on the stand. I noticed the front seal was leaking some . So I thought it would be a good time to change it.I pulled the balancer off and put the new seal in. After reading some comment s here and there they said it wasn't a good idea to reinstall the old balance because some of them were coming off. I would install an aftermarket one but I need the slots in the OEM style balancer to use my front March pulley system. The engine is bone stock. I can get an AC delco OEM style balancer from Summit for about $75.00. But If I don't need to spend the money I'd rather not. Any help would be appreciated.

They only come off if they aren't installed correctly

There is no common issues with the LS balancers though. They don't have reputation of coming off or coming apart. All balancers get old and the rubber starts to go bad that bonds the ring to the pulley hub so inspect that part of it and if it's good run it. But no, they don't have a problem coming off after put back on. Unless someone left it loose.

Thank you. I did inspect the rubber. That was the 1st thing I looked at when I removed it. It all looked good. Any tip on installing it? I did get the installer from AutoZone. Red loctite the bolt. I heard to torque the bolt 37lbs then go 140 degrees more to tighten it. Anything else you can add?

Just make sure it's on all the way down and the bolt is tight. You technically are supposed to replace the bolt since it's a torque to yield bolt, but I never have.

So grab another to be on the safe side or an ARP. Or reuse if you like.

Most important is make sure it's all the way on, and never beat it on with a hammer, use a installer like you said you will be doing, and make sure the bolt is tight. I've never even torqued one I just hit them with an impact.

It depends on what you mean by coming off.

As said, if a new bolt is used and torqued, angled properly it won't come off.

Stock balancers have tendency to separate. The rubber between the inner and outer ring fails and the outer ring will walk off or destroy the timing cover.

I got it on yesterday. I got it at .130 which was with between .094 to .176 parameters.
