Question Type of 85MM Sensor

Need some opinions, building my 2002 Ls1 and getting to the MAF sensor replacement. Going to replace with 85MM stock sensor to keep the tuning simple, but what is the difference if I replace the MAF with a new one without the screen vs. one with a screen? General info - Going with the 92MM Fast intake and big mouth bellows, SLP box lid and cold air intake package. Heads and short block have been built by Texas Speed looking and I am looking at 450-475 HP roughly at the wheels when this is completed in a couple months. Thanks

Screens help straighten the airflow. Try to get one with the screen.

Here’s something to think about Texas speed has their 102 maf. They were selling it without a screen at first but now they sell it with a screen because they say it straightens the air which is better. Goes to show there is a reason they now sell it with a screen.

Screen is better.

That said, bigger is also better, AT WOT. At all lesser airflows, not so much.

Doesn't make sense to put in a larger TB but leave in the smaller MAF. They kinda need to go hand-in-hand.

You can get 4" tubing with screens in it, and the mounting flange for the later-model card style MAF. Obviously this would require significant tuning. Pretty much would eliminate the MAF from ever acting as The Restriction though. A lot of that sort of thing will depend on how you intend to use the car, whether chasing the last 1.87 HP is worth whatever driveability hassles, and so forth.

The 102 isn't a bad idea but i haven't seen any flow data that shows how much CFM more it can flow vs the 85 mm.

a stock 85mm with the screen intact is fine and flows well up to a point, you probably will not need to go larger if you're only making 450 whp.
