Ls1 241 heads shaved for compression questions
Just moving across from SBC400 motor to a LS1 for my thirdgen TransAM and building my first LS motor.
I've got a stock bottom end that I'm rebuilding and set of stock 241 heads that come with the donor motor.
I've got a larger Holley sniper efi style intake, 102mm TB, and a VCM710 cam, specs below:
Duration232/234
Lobe Separation@ 110
Valve Inlet.590"
Exhaust.596"
My question is, I've been told taking 30 thou off the 241 head surface is a common mod done to up the compression and get a bit more out of the stock heads...
Will this cause any valve/piston clearance issues, or will it be ok with this cam?
I'm planning on getting another set of 241 heads on the cheap and doing a little bit of porting work and gasket matching and would want to do this with these heads as well, but wanted to make sure I won't run into any issues...
With that size cam, you might have to flycut with 30 thou off the heads. Download the PCMofNC spreadsheet and plug in some numbers, might help you out a bit.
