Default Ls2 swap dipstick tube?

So I go to button up my swap from ls1 to ls2 98 camaro with an fbody pan and....the hole appears to be plugged...can i run a different pan or am I screwed?

The hole in the block is plugged? I bought an LS2 block once that had a small freeze plug in the dipstick hole. Tapped it out nice and easy with a long punch.

It might have a freeze plug, it's hard to tell.

Is this what you dealt with?

That doesn’t look like a freeze plug from your pic, but it could just be the picture. Is the pan on the engine? Can you look at it from the other side?

Unfortunately the pan will need to come off. If it’s a plug, you’ll want to drive it out from the top down. Won’t mess up the hole in the block at all. If it not a plug and needs drilled, you’ll want to catch the shavings obviously, which will require you taking the windage tray off, likely either way.

I drilled a hole in the center of the plug and ran a machine screw into it then hit the head with a pry bar and hammer until it popped out.
