Default Exhaust opinions

2000 Silverado lq4, 243 heads, .605 cam, 42 lb injectors...to my understanding "essentially an LS6" but dont bash me too much if I'm incorrect in saying that. One of the mufflers (40 series flowmaster) has a baffle rattling in it so it's kind of on the annoying side. My question to you is what do you prefer. I know everyone has their own opinion and that's what I'm looking for. Ideally I would love it if I could get the Corvette/Camaro sound out of it, but I know that's a completely different vehicle. Anyway, let me know what your thoughts are and if you have a video of it that would be great!! If not there is always youtube lol. Thanks!!

I would either go TDs or fun quick and easy single 4" I'm not going to recommend a muffler , most guys buy on sound , but more important imo is noise level ,rasp and how much it flows .Oh and this thread should be in the external section !

Which exhaust is in the engine compartment... the kind with 2 pipes going into the muffler, or the Y-pipe style?

I have the Y-pipe (5.3) style in my Av with long-tube headers... single 3" muffler inlet... I used the Gibson 615535 and added a Vibrant 1142 in the I-pipe. It's nothing at all like a Vette or Camaro but seems very appropriate to a truck. A deep rumble, no rasp or drone at all (it had considerable rasp before I put in the resonator), very good fit and finish. I don't like "loud" at all which I know some people do which I can't understand, it just pisses me off, and this setup is pretty mellow without sounding weenie. It sounds highly authoritative I guess, for lack of a better word.

If you have the 2-pipe (6.0) style that won't work though.

If you just want to replace mufflers look at Gibson mwa mufflers, nobody really ever talks about em but they are awesome prolly my all time favorite mufflers. Remember muffler discussion is always a tough one. The debate will go on forever. If you are talking great HP gains and loud this is what I'd do........ I don't know if your single cab or ext cab or four door,so you'll need to get on there site to do some looking. There is plenty ove there set ups on YouTube for audible reference.....

The Vibrants quietened down my "broke in" Magnaflows just to my liking. After the mufflers lost some of their packing an hour drive or longer sometimes would give me a headache. The resonators quietened the harsh sound while making my system sound deeper which surprised me.

I wonder if the trucks could get the Camaro Vette sound by installing mufflers behind the axle housing... of course you'd have to lose the spare tire mount location. Been eyeing the Xforce Varex mufflers that have an open/closed valve system controlled with a remote.

Yeah I was really surprised at how much the Vibrant did. I used the larger one that's sort of oval because it fit great in front of the muffler and didn't even interfere with the stock hanger. It did pretty much what you describe yours doing: took the rasp and harshness and growl out of it, made it a pleasant deep rumble instead. I just have it clamped for now, I'll probably eventually weld it up.

I just removed dual Flowmaster Super 10's and installed dual Magnaflow 3" offset mufflers. The Magnaflows sound so much better, deep sound with no rasp. Car is a 2002 Camaro SS and dual mufflers are mounted under seat on each side with 3" turndowns behind seat. I now have less ground clearance, but not too bad. Cam is a Summit 230/242. Sound should be similar on your truck with turndowns behind cab and before rear axle.

These Flowmaster mufflers (fiberglass packing) are very similar and lots cheaper than the Magnaflows (stainless packing). These are a strait thru design just like my Magnaflows.
