Default What’s the deal with this starter??
70 Chevelle

New 6.0 build, LS7 crank, 4.030, Heads, Cam, LSA blower, 4L80- everything is new.

New Starter is ACDelco 3371131

New flywheel is ATP Z-270 14” 168 tooth

using ARP bolts

im not using shims but the bendix is engaging and turnning the motor over but it is making a terrible intermittent sound. I recorded it and you can see shavings, no teeth are broken. What should I do?



is it uncommon to need shins?

Yup try 1 shim. It's a little tight it seems in 1 spot

I had to shim a new ls3 starter on my ls3 crate motor for my belair. Baffled me, i thought we were past this. But can't argue with the results.

1mm shim + 1/32" shim fixed the issue

Awesome. Thanks for updating. Until we have no more internal combustion engines left on the planet, a GM small block will always require a starter shim from time to time.
