Default Overpowering smell of fuel coming from engine.

Helped a buddy change out pcv lines on an all stock 2001 ls1 a4 camaro. Now there is an overpowering smell of fuel a few seconds when running it at idle in park. It comes into the cabin just idling and is so strong, we can't be around it more than a minute. It is definitely coming from the front of the car. There was no gas smell previously.

No obvious fuel leaking anywhere. Car does not have a fuel tank trap door.

Also, the car battery was disconnected before we removed the pcv lines. Car idles at 550 rpm now - did not try driving it yet. Any thoughts?

To change the pcv lines, you would have taken the intake off. To do that, you either took the rails off the injectors or the injectors out of the intake. If you didn't disconnect the fuel supply to the rail, the line was possibly kinked or cracked. Even if you disconnected it from the rail, it's a 19 year old line.

you either pinched an o-ring (probably at the rail) or cracked the factory line from the tubing to the rail. No need to run it, just have someone cycle the key to on while someone watches under the hood. Pretty simple. If it's none of those, maybe you touched fuel evap lines instead of pcv on mistake?

now that I think of it, if you took the rails off the injectors, you need to change those upper o-rings. They're 19 years old, due for a change when the rail is off

We didn't take the intake off. nor did we remove fuel rail or injectors. Basically y part of pcv system was cracked and we disconnected the hard lines and threaded them out and the threaded the new ones in and connected with a new y connector at the back. Only removed pcv hoses.

Default Solved!

So after my friend and I going over everything; turns out my friend had shifted the pcm to get to a lost socket. Just loosened the two 10mm bolts holding the plastic basket. That inadvertently shifted the pcm higher where the cowl was putting pressure on the pcm wires.

That caused the following codes to be thrown:

P0300
P0355
P0358
P0452
P1637

All cleared once pcm basket was shifted lower. Hope this helps someone else.
