Temporary hydraulic bypass on the PS pump?

Temporary hydraulic bypass on the PS pump? I'd like to start and run my LS swap, and leave the hydroboost brake booster and steering box out of the circuit for the moment. That way, I can focus on getting the engine running correctly, and not worry about bleeding air out of my hydraulic system.
How would I perform a bypass on a typical truck power steering pump?
#1, assuming the pump is a typical positive displacement pump with a relief valve -- I'd use an old pressure hose, cut off the end, and loop it back onto the return fitting on the pump.
#2, assuming the pump is a centrifugal or variable-displacement pump with internal pressure sensing -- I'd plug all the fittings on the pump.
Which scenario is correct? I'm familiar with industrial and agricultural hydraulics, but I've never delved into an automotive PS pump.
