Default Oil Filter Fitting

First time LS1 owner and I’m in a bit of a pickle. My oil filter is stuck on the fitting and I’m pretty sure the only way I can get the filter off is by taking the fitting out. Only thing is, I doubt I can get what’s left of the oil filter off the fitting. My question is, can you order an oil filter fitting for the LS1? I haven’t been able to find anything on Google or other similar threads. Thanks.

Have you tried to tap it with a chisel to break it loose. You are just talking about the threaded ring, correct?

Dumb question but you are using a filter wrench of some sort correct? Is it crushing the filter when trying to remove? As a side note newer LS1 replacement pans are threaded for late model Camaro oil filters instead of the original "LS1" filter, just an FYI.

Junkyard

Not that complicated

Be aware though, there are 2 near identical adapters (that I know of), maybe more, exactly the same except different. Either (any) one will screw into your oil pan but they will take different filters. Looking up the filter for the sheet metal shrouding your oil pan might get you one that doesn't screw onto whatever adapter you pick up. As noted above, many replacement pans even come with a newer thread on the adapter, even though they're "spec"ed for some earlier application.

1. Get fitting from junkyard
2. Go to parts store, have them bring out both filters that fit LS powered vehicles.
3. See which one screws on
4. Buy it, etching the part # on your brain for eternity.

I haven’t tried a chisel. I tried loosening it by hand, a oil filter wrench, then screwdriver and hammer. None of that worked. I have long tube headers and they’re close to my oil filter. Idk if that has anything to do with it. I found a filter fitting online part #12552357.

When I put the filter on last oil change, to my memory, I didn’t use a wrench. Just hand tightened. I tried using an oil filter wrench to remove it and it just kept slipping. I’ve heard that about the replacement oil pans. Thanks for the info.

If the filter won’t spin, it has nothing to do with the fitting. The filter’s rubber seal has bonded to the oil pan. You just need to try harder.

Take it to a oil change shop. They have filter pliers that will get that thing off, guaranteed.
