Clearance block near starter ear
I’m new here so this is my first post. Go easy.
I plan on adapting a gen 3 ls or LS4 to a newer Audi OB4 transmission for an AWD project car
This transmission has the axles closer to the bell housing than the 01E so it reduces the front overhang and allows (if I can solve my question below) it to fit in the Audi engine bay without modifying the front core support & fans. After purchasing the transmission and mock-up block and taking measurements, I realized I am going to have to relocate the starter and would have to clearance the “ear” of the engine block where the starter bolts to because the front diff of the Audi is in that area. This is to get the engine as close to the transmission as possible.
Question is, are there any internal water jackets or oil passages where I plan on removing material? I’ve seen posts where the feiro swaps clearance this area on the LS4 to fit a Buick 3800 transmission? I think.
Here’s my original plan, which was to space it out away from the diff but I need the 3 inches back to make it fit in the engine bay. 3D printed it.
