Default Starter to Flywheel 6.0

Ok, I have been marinating on this for a few days now to no avail so here I am seeking some kind of clarity. I am putting a 2004 LQ9 6.0ls I purchased a 4L80 from the local yard as well. I don't know much when it comes to the LS's but I have seen plenty to know its the way to go nowadays after researching I learned to mate the 4L80 to the 6.0 using the stock torque converter I needed the flywheel with the spacer so I purchased part number ATP-Z270 from Summit Racing that has the spacer welded in place and also comes with bolts nice quality parts as can be expected from Summit. So this is where things get confusing and I AM STUMPED I contacted summit asking what starter do I need I was told a Gen 1 with a shim ha no such luck not even close I can't even lineup one bolt hole. Anyone know what starter setup I need any and all is welcomed.

Looking at my notes from my old 4L80 swap.

Attached the 4L80 to a 4.8 which I then replaced with a 6.0. (Replacing the 4L60)
Used the stock flywheel and the stock starter.
I got the 4L80, converter, and lines from a mid 2000 truck. I did need a spacer for the tq/flywheel.

can you confirm what year your tranny is from?

SteadyCruisin,

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having with the starter not matching up. We've sent you a private message so we can dive into this further.

Figured it out but not before snapping the bellhousing on my tranny 4l80. So the bolts that came with the flex plate I purchased from summitracing are tooooo long. The bolts stick out past the pilot hole on the flex plate I had to shave them about a quarter inch and it mated perfectly I can post pics if needed but hopefully summit will address this issue I just got home from work and figured Id share the news just incase anyone else ends up in my position hopefully it will save them some time money and tranny case to say the least. I will be calling summit maybe the can make shorter bolts for this particular kit. Guess I am on the hunt for a new tranny or case

Sounds like maybe you ordered the bolts for the early 6.0 rather than the later version. Not sure the changeover year; it was in or before 03, but I'm not sure when. Obviously your 04 is the late one though.

The early version had a longer crank, at the rear. Something around .400", a little over 3/8".

I am pretty sure the 1999 and 2000 are the ones with the longer crank. They also had iron heads.
