Muffler Suggestions
Muffler Suggestions Did a search, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I am looking for a nice sounding muffler with minimum of drone. The car is a 68 Camaro with LS-1, 400 RWHP but I am upgrading to a 408 that should make 500 RWHP in a year or so. I have Art Morrison long tubes with a PYPES 2 1/2" mandrel bent system with x-pipe and PYPES electric cutouts after the X. The exhaust exits at the back of the car and the mufflers are under the rear seat. I used Flowmaster 40's (Yeah I know they are drone monsters) because I had always loved the sound of them from outside the car. I quickly learned that they drone horribly from 1800 to 2200 RPM which is my highway cruise. I want to keep the aggressive outside tone if I can and lose the drone. Because I have cutouts, I am willing to compromise on the aggressive outside tone if I have to. I have been looking at Borla Pro XS, Pypes street pros, magnaflows, dynomax and even flowmaster 50's but I can't get good info on how they would work in my application. I am kind of leaning towards the Borlas right now. Any help or knowledge would be appreciated.

I had FlowMaster 40’s when I first built the Chevelle.I have used a lot of them since the 80’s when they came on the scene and I’ve always loved the sound like you. It’s different with the LS platform, as you know. There is droning. I went over to Borla XS Pro’s and I love them. It’s a lightweight muffler that’s stainless steel, so it’s a true performance muffler all around. Hard to beat the sound also. Zero drone.
I'm with Scott, hard to beat the Borla pro xs. I have them on my wagon and everybody loves them. Zero drone. I can tell you from experience that you absolutely do not want the Pypes street pros, horrible drone. They sound good outside the car but provide a miserable in car sound.
Che70velle, I did find some on Monday night. I even found a direct comparison between 40 Flows and Borla ProXS. I can't lie I like the FLows from the outside, but the Borlas do sound more refined and if they can get rid of the drone that is the way I am going. I am jsut going to wait until Cyber Monday to buy them since this will be a winter project.
