Either dry (factory) or a thin schmeeeer of something. Doesn't much matter.
More important is, verify that your blockoff isn't "bent", or that the bolt holes aren't already stripped. From overtightened bolts, in either case.
You can largely bulletproof the installation if you get a new blockoff, and Heli-Coil the bolt holes; then don't tighten past maybe 16-18 ft-lbs on the bolt. Stop at 15 to be safe.
New gasket. If you leave the oil filter on be ready for about a pint of oil to come out when you start loosening the bolts. Drops of oil will continue to come out for the next hour or so, I kept drying mine with rags until no more oil came out. Oil also will be in the bolt holes, make sure to clean them out as well.
