What's leaking at the back of my engine? Everything?

For 30.00 bucks I used ARP studs to help align the Tremec trans into place, makes life a lot easier when you have to stab it in. Plus you can see if there is any slight interference before hand. If you don't want to splurge just get a few bolts and cut off the heads and use a alignment pins on top.
I wouldn't risk breaking one of the ears off a transmission.

Your idea for cutting the heads off of bolts to then use the bolts as alignment pins is a good idea...

Ignorance isn't a requirement to blow up the pilot bearing, shifting like a man can do it as well as mere age.

Years ago when I did the clutch in my Z06 I did the rear main seal and cover gasket. Supposedly GM had porosity issues back then too, but mine quit leaking with a reseal. If GM redid their design I think you'll be just fine with the new cover. Be sure to get some of this parts cleaner for the back of your engine, it's magic.
